Zavenir Daubert’s motto is “prevention is better than cure”. While we encourage rust protection there are numerous cases of rusting of parts & equipment in the industry. The rework and recovery of the rusted metals have always been a cumbersome task. Conventionally, various chemical (strong acids or alkalis, electrolysis) & mechanical (shot or sandblasting) methods have been used for rust removal. The chemical methods are very toxic & require neutralization before disposal. They bring in newer problems like flash rust, attack on soft metals & parts deterioration (hydrogen embrittlement). The mechanical methods have undesired inhalation hazard, they damage painted and soft surfaces & have high labour/energy costs.
The quest for greener chemicals for rust removal has led to the development and usage of Chelation Technology in this field. Chelation is the process of reversible binding (complexation) of a ligand, the chelant, chelator, chelating agent, sequestering agent, or complexing agent, to a metal ion, forming a metal complex, the chelate. In rust removal process from ferrous & its alloys, the active ingredient bonds to ferrous ion & pulls it out of the iron oxide by selective chelation. The ferrous ions are removed from the chelator by the sulphur compound to form a ferric sulphate complex. The cycle is repeated by the chelating agent to gather more ferrous ions and remove the oxide part.
This technology makes the rust removal process using RUST REVENGE® cost-efficient, non-toxic, environment friendly & highly effective on a variety of iron alloys surfaces & geometries.
